Float Painting 2007 #4
Time to update the cabooses paint, these pictures
are from Wednesday June 20th.
06/20/07 - When I painted the lower red area on the caboose
I found that board was rotten. For safety reasons I had no choice
but to replace it, the painting had to be put off.
Monday night was spent painting the yellow so a partial paint
job was already started.
The yellow color is much brighter than any picture can capture.
Tuesday night was spent purchasing the materials I would need
for my tear down and restoration of the back end.
I needed to pull all the decorations off the back and take all
the screws that held the back plate to the caboose off too.
I was able to put a screwdriver through the wood to tell how bad it was.
The pictures below will show you the different stages of tear down and reconstruction.
When I got this far I found all the steps were bad too!
I clamped the back board to the new plywood and drew a line
around it as a pattern. When I did this I also drilled all the holes
needed for pipes and decorations.
All cut out, now I sand both sides.
Time to disassemble more of the back end.
Steps are rotten too!
This is the stack of wood to be used in the reconstruction.
It still needs to be primed.
Ready to be primed.
Chuck to the rescue, he will paint the cupola.
It is about 90 out right now, can you imagine how Chuck
is feeling right now?
I primed everything I could.
Both Chuck and Lloyd showed up to help. The yellow
paint is looking great.
I pulled both doors off and primed them too.
I can put everything together now.
It is tough to think of how the back goes back together.
Nearly complete and ready for paint.
Last pieces of trim were installed and here comes the rain! Painting stops!
