Track Work #3
GSRM replaces ties and rail in lieu of rent for
storage of our equipment at the Chaska, MN
United Sugar Plant.Saturday 05/20/06 -Today's pictures show Chuck,
Lloyd and Rob tamping ballast. Ballast stabilizes
the track which helps distribute the load of the train
on the tracks and ties. Ballast needs to be put mostly
under the rail area of the ties or the ties will break
under such huge loaded railcars.
Ballast is leveling out the track, Lloyd and Chuck are getting
rid of some of the dips in the grade.
Chuck is tamping ballast under one of the ties.
Rob is doing a great job tamping.
Lloyd is picking up ballast for us to spread.
What a great crew today.
Two years ago we replaced a huge number of ties in this
area now we are finishing the job.
Lots of ballast needs to be applied into this area.
Great job dropping off ballast! We can use some extra help?
