More than 300 visitors took part in free steam train rides
at the Logging
Museum Saturday, July 5. Riders were treated to a free "tender"
ride
around the Logging Museum Complex aboard GSRM's rubber tire steam
train. For a donation, riders received a "front row seat"
in the cab and were
allowed to sound the whistle and bell. The project was a joint
venture between
the Rhinelander Railroad Association, The Gopher State Railway
Museum
and the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce Room tax Committee. The
steam
train also took part in Rhinelander 4th of July parade on Friday,
replaying a
1948 visit of the C&NW Railroad diesel float brought to Rhinelander's
parade
55 years ago this summer. The parade appearance was sponsored
by Rhinelander's
six hotels participating in the Room Tax Program. Plans are already
underway for next year.
