The mission of Gopher State Railway Museum is to educate the public through collection, preservation, restoration, display and operation of railroad equipment and artifacts.

Gopher State Railway Museum is a 501c3 nonprofit incorporated in the State of Minnesota.

The museum occupies 20 acres of land, approximately two miles north of New Prague, MN adjacent to MN Highway 21 where it is developing an operating railroad museum.

The museum is open to the public and the caboose train runs the first Saturday of the month, May through October between the hours of 10a to 4p.

Visitors may also tour other pieces of railroad rolling stock including an 1880 Pullman car built for the St Paul, Minneapolis & Manitoba Railway and used extensively as James J Hill's private railroad car.

Gopher State Railway Museum is 100% staffed by volunteers.

Whether it's restoration and maintenance, operating the train, building track and structures or administrative, we rely on volunteers of varied backgrounds and skill sets to help keep the museum moving forward.

Normal work session days are Saturdays at the museum, year round (weather permitting) and usually begin around 9a.

There's no requirement for minimum hours a volunteer needs to work. Come when you can, leave when you need to. Everyone's contribution is valued and helps us grow and meet our mission.
