Northern Pacific S4 717
Alco S4 717 began its service in 1954 in Duluth Superior with the Northern Pacific. 717 was sold for scrap in 1973 but ended up at the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative processing plant. SMBSC donated 717 to GSRM and we are waiting till the day it can be on display.
717 is not operational because of an electrical fire some years ago. We are looking for volunteers who want some excitement and a feeling of satisfaction by rewiring 717, so we can get it running!
If you like painting locomotives and detailing here is a challenge for you to get 717 back in Northern Pacific livery, join GSRM!
Ron is cleaning the inside of the cab of 717.
717 looks as though it is switching cars in New Prague but alas it is just part of the consist. You can see the N of the name Northern Pacific on the hood of 717.
The stack is still covered and the doors are locked.
